ENGAGEMENT & PRE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
THE MOST ROMANTIC MOMENTS ON EARTH
The Engagement Session, also known as pre wedding shoot, is the most important step for you to feel completely comfortable during your wedding day. My goal is not only to give you the best engagement photos but also create a connection between you and me. This way, during your wedding day you won't be looking at me and you'll not be aware of my presence there. That's the most important thing in order to have natural, candid and beutiful wedding photos. It simply works!
NOT POSED NOR FAKED, JUST PURE LOVE
You may know that I do not give directions to my couples during their wedding day. Engagement sessions are very similar, actually is there where you're going to experience how I work and how I achieve the wedding and engagement or pre wedding photos you can see her on my website.
I'm not going to lie, the first 30 minutes of an engagement session are weird for every couple. However, there's a point where you both begin to loosen up and be yourselves. It's totally normal to be a little bit worried or aware of the camera when we start, that's why I do prefer to begin the engagement session with a walk, a chat and then photograph you from a distance. After those 30 minutes I promise, you're going to feel way more relaxed and natural, it happens to every single couple.
The way it works is really simple: we will walk to see some perfect spots for photos are your location and the moment I see something that I like or something that I know it will work we stop there and I ask you to talk about anything. The rest happens naturally.
TIMING IS KEY FOR THE BEST ENGAGEMENT PICTURES
I only photograph couples for their engagement photos during sunset. Usually, an hour and a half before the sun sets but it could be a little bit less if you're engagement session is at sea level such as at a beach.
Sunset gives us the perfect colours for the most beautiful engagement pictures. Warm colours and stunning sunsets are perfect for the most romantic moments. Additionally, the light during sunset does not only have a beautiful warm colour but it is also softer and more flattering than the harsh light you can have at noon for example.
I also offer pre wedding sessions at sunrise for a small additional fee for those couples who like to have more privacy during their engagement session or for those who choose a very busy location such as London. Usually, when we go to the location you've chosen for your pre wedding photos we could find that it's quite busy, especially during spring or summer on a Saturday or Sunday. I will do my best to not include anyone but you in wide shots but sometimes if the location is crowded that is quite difficult. For that reason, if your location is quite busy or you just want to be alone with your partner during your pre wedding I do advice to choose sunrise for your engagement session. Also, for those shy couples, an engagement during sunrise is the way to go. However, think that we will have to wake up very early!
CHOOSING YOUR LOCATION FOR THE PERFECT ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS
This is key. The location must be meaningful for you both. It has to be a special place because then when you see your engagement pictures for the first time, they're gonna be even more special. It could be the place where you first met, or maybe the location where you had your first date. Also, you can think about the moment you had your first kiss. If none of those locations are suitable, you just have to find a place that you like to go together... it might be a beach, a pond, a park etc... somewhere you're going to feel relaxed.
If you don't have a special place or you prefer me to recommend you a location just let me know. I do know lots of places which are stunning and perfect for your engagement photos around Hampshire.
ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS ARE INCLUDED IN ALL MY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY PACKAGES
Pre wedding shoots are so important to me that I do not charge more for them. Engagement sessions are included in the wedding photography prices, in all my packages and ARE MANDATORY. I recommend to have your engagement photos done a year before your wedding, but that obviously depends on when you book me.
Engagement sessions are also weather dependent, so many times during autumn and winter we would have to reschedule until we find the perfect day. However, if you're after a wintery, rainy or autumn feel we can do that as well for sure!
WHAT IF I'M NOT GETTING MARRIED? DO I HAVE TO BOOK A WEDDING PACKAGE TO GET AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
No, you can also book an engagement session a la Carta. This works for example if you're already married and you didn't have the opportunity to have an engagement session before your wedding or just if you would love to have some romantic photos with your partner. Also, engagement pictures can be the perfect gift!
Engagement sessions (a la Carta) start at £299.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS
ENGAGEMENT SESSIONs? WHAT IS THAT AND WHY SHOULD I have one?
Well, an engagement session is a casual photo shoot with your partner months before your wedding. Some couples use the engagement photos for their wedding website, their 'Save the Date' cards or wedding invitations or to display some lovely portraits of them on their wedding day. Additionally, it's a great opportunity for having a first contact with a professional wedding photographer. Engagement sessions also allow me to meet the couple a little bit more and see how they behave so I can have a more personal approach with them on their wedding day. This way I can get what I want: To achieve you to see me as another guest on your wedding day.
Engagement sessions are included in all my packages and mandatory. Mandatory? Seriously? Yes, as you can see on my website my style is quite quite different and personal. Engagement sessions are our first contact to let the magic flow.
HOW DO WE BOOK OUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
As I said above, engagement sessions are included in all my packages so when you book your wedding with me we will talk about when and where your engagement session will take place. I always recommend having your engagement done way before your wedding day. I don't want you to be stressed or thinking about calling your bridal shop or tailor because your dress/suit wasn't altered properly and your dying because you're not sure if it will be ready on time for your wedding day. You know what I mean, right? I need you to be at ease, happy and wishful.
WHAT TIME WILL OUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION TAKE PLACE?
Good question, the most important actually. I only do engagement sessions at the 'golden hours'. What is that? Well, very early in the morning or two hours before sunset. And, why? Simply, because the lighting is wonderful, perfect for your engagement pics. It's romantic and in line with my very personal style. I promise, if you've got to get up very early in the morning (when I say very early I really mean it :D) you won't regret it when you see your engagement photographs. And if you're not keen on waking up that early, two hours before sunset has the same effect. So why very early in the morning? Well, if you choose a location that is very busy like, let's say London, the best way to get rid of the tourist (and I say it in a good way), is to get up very early and do your engagement session at dawn. London will be completely empty and the light will be stunning. However, if you want something more tranquil like somewhere in the middle of the countryside or in a park such as Victoria Waters, Basingstoke Canal etc... an engagement session before dusk will be lovely.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR FOR OUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
Be yourself, just that! Don't try to dress up if you don't like it and don't wear a dress if you don't want to. Something casual, smart casual will do but as I said, this is about you and your partner. You have to be you so don't try to be another person. It also depends on the location you choose. For example, if you choose a big urban city like London, a pair of wellies might not be the wiser option (or maybe it might be if it's raining a lot). However, if you choose a plain field in the middle of nowhere a gown or a long vaporous vintage dress could do the trick a look amazing. But as I said, be YOU!
Additionally, if you have hired a makeup/hair artist for your wedding this could be the best time for a trial, don't you think?. However, if the makeup artist tells you that you need tonnes of foundation because a proper makeup for a photographic session should be thick, repeat with me: NO! We will be working mostly of the time with natural light, so no need for exaggerated looks. Something natural, a look which you feel comfortable with will be enough. Conversely, if you haven't booked a makeup artist or you don't want to have your trial yet just wear something natural that reflects who you are.
CAN YOU PHOTOGRAPH OUR KIDS? OUR DOG?
Of course, I would love to! If they are important to you they are important to me! Just one suggestion, bring your kids (or your dog) with another person (friend, family member) at the beginning of the engagement session. We'll start taking lovely portraits of you all together and then that trusted person could take your kids (or dog) back home so we can focus on you and your partner.
MANU, WE'RE A SAME-SEX COUPLE AND WE DON'T FEEL THAT COmFORtABLE SHOWING OUR LOVE AT PUBLIC SPACES.
Well, I do understand you, I really do. Don't worry, many of my same-sex couples have that feeling at the beginning of the engagement session. However, do you know what happens after 30 or 45 minutes? They forget about everything and the start to loosen up. Actually, to be perfectly honest that happens to every couple I work with, it doesn't matter if is a same-sex couple or not. Nevertheless, if you feel that that won't happen to you, why don't we find a more secluded location for your engagement session? It wouldn't be the first time that I do an engagement session in a living room, to be honest, and I love that idea too! Listen, the most important thing is that you and your partner have to be at ease, so let's choose the perfect location for you both so you can enjoy the experience and stop worrying about external things, ok?. Think about a park, the countryside, the beach... there are a million places for an intimate engagement session.
I'M AFRAID I'M NOT PHOTOGENIC AT ALL. THE MOMENT I SEE A CAMERA I START MAKING WEIRD FACES.
Well dear, you're not alone! It happens to me as well. That statement, "I'm not photogenic at all" is something that I'm hearing more and more lately and I can't believe it when I listen to a bride-to-be or a groom saying that when they are simply beautiful. Listen, don't worry. You're gonna be at a beautiful place, with your partner who loves you endlessly so it's simple: you're gonna be really happy, and I'm gonna be able to see that during your engagement session. You're gonna look gorgeous and you don't have to think about how you look because if you're thinking that during the engagement session you're not gonna enjoy it. And you deserve to enjoy it, it's a special moment and you deserve it. Stop worrying about how you will look and let me show you how you really look. I promise, you're gonna change your mind and that will be the last time your will say "I'm not photogenic at all".
PD. Erase that phrase from your vocabulary now! :D
